Dermal Fillers

The lines and facial folds that disappear after a smile or expression are called dynamic wrinkles. In time these will become etched into the skin, thus becoming static or deep wrinkles. The best methods to slow this process down include good skin care, using SPF and antioxidant skin creams (such as Kalaya™ and iampur™), neuromodulators and injectable fillers. A filler will smooth out superficial and moderate wrinkles, give lips a more sensual appearance, and adding volume to the cheeks. The treatments are suitable for patients of all ages, and is ideal for preventing wrinkles in young people or for smoothing out imperfections such as scars.

The most common type of filler is a hyaluronic acid filler, a natural substance which is abundant throughout the human body. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is already present in the skin, naturally working to retain moisture, and to support elastin and collagen. As we age our bodies reabsorb the hyaluronic acid in the skin, causing our skin to deflation, descention and deterioration. Hyaluronic acid restores volume in the cheeks and lips that has been lost.

Revanesse®
The newest and only available Canadian made filler option, the Revanesse® family of products is a collection of injectable dermal fillers that are used to treat the entire face. Botox®, Dysport® & Xeomin® (Neuromodulators)

A neuromodulator injection is a safe, non-surgical procedure that eliminates the lines that make you look angry, stressed and tired. An injectable treatment derived from a purified protein, it works by relaxing the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles are caused by repeated muscular contractions, such as frowning and squinting, and disappear when your face relaxes. Regular neuromodulator use aids in softening expression lines and slows down the development of deep static (permanent) wrinkles, allowing a rejuvenated appearance to the skin.

It’s a safe, non-invasive procedure, that usually can be performed in 15 minutes with rare minimal to no side effects. The History

Neuromodulators have been used for over a number of years as an effective and safe treatment for a range of medical conditions, including hyperhidrosis. It has been approved for medical use in Canada and more than 75 countries for 20 different applications.

Treatment Areas

What to Expect

When administered by an experienced physician, you can still smile, frown and show expression. The treatment only targets and relaxes the muscle beneath the lines at the point of injection, so the other elements of facial expression remain active. It has no effect on the sensory nerves, so normal feeling remains in the treated areas. The effects usually last up to four months, and after repeat treatments the effects may begin to last longer.

Chronic Migraines
Migraines are painful, debilitating headaches. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to lights, sound, and smells. Therapeutic Botox® can reduce the number and severity of migraines and, in some cases, preventing them all together. Bruxism

Therapeutic Applications of Botox®

Therapeutic Botox® (onbotulinum toxin A) is a prescription medicine (covered by most insurance companies) that is approved and used for:

Urinary Incontinence

Many women have involuntary loss of urine called urinary incontinence (UI). Some women may lose a few drops of urine while running or coughing. Others may feel a strong, sudden urge to urinate just before losing a large amount of urine. The risk of public embarrassment keeps them from enjoying many activities with their family and friends. Urine loss can also occur during sexual activity and cause tremendous emotional distress. Women experience UI twice as often as men. Pregnancy and childbirth, menopause, and the structure of the female urinary tract account for this difference. Both women and men can become incontinent from neurologic injury, birth defects, stroke, multiple sclerosis, and physical problems associated with aging.

Incontinence occurs because of problems with muscles and nerves that help to hold or release urine. The bladder connects to the urethra. When urinating, muscles in the wall of the bladder contract, forcing urine out of the bladder and into the urethra. At the same time, sphincter muscles surrounding the urethra relax, letting urine pass out of the body. Incontinence will occur if your bladder muscles suddenly contract or the sphincter muscles are not strong enough to hold back urine. Urine may escape with less pressure than usual if the muscles are damaged, causing a change in the position of the bladder. Obesity, which is associated with increased abdominal pressure, can worsen incontinence.

Types of Urinary Incontinence

• Stress - Leakage of small amounts of urine during physical movement (coughing, sneezing, exercising).
• Urge - Leakage of large amounts of urine at unexpected times, including during sleep.
• Overactive Bladder - Urinary frequency and urgency, with or without urge incontinence.
• Functional - Untimely urination because of physical disability, external obstacles, or problems in thinking or communicating that prevent a person from reaching a toilet.
• Overflow - Unexpected leakage of small amounts of urine because of a full bladder.
• Mixed - Usually the occurrence of stress and urge incontinence together.
• Transient - Leakage that occurs temporarily because of a situation that will pass (infection, taking a new medication, colds with coughing).
